Phillies shut out Rangers 2-0

The Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Texas Rangers by a score of 2-0 on Saturday, May 21, 2011. Philadelphia is now 16-8 at home this season.

Cliff Lee pitched eight scoreless innings and struck out 10 batters to pick up the victory against his former team. Lee allowed five hits and two walks and even contributed to the offense with a single and stolen base.

The Phillies pounded out eight hits but only managed to score twice. Slugger Ryan Howard hit his 10th homerun of the year and centerfielder John Mayberry, Jr. drove in the the Phils’ second run of the night with a single in the sixth inning.

Rangers starter Colby Lewis allowed both runs and struck out seven batters in six and two-thirds innings of work. He was relieved by lefty Arthur Rhodes and right-hander Brett Tomko.

Phillies’ top prospect Domonic Brown also made his 2011 debut in right field but struck out twice in the contest.

With only a two-run cushion to work with, Ryan Madson recorded his ninth save of the season. Madson’s season ERA is now a miniscule 0.47.

The Phillies will look to sweep their first interleague series of the year this afternoon when they host Texas at 1:35 p.m. Roy Oswalt will oppose Matt Harrison.
