Phillies fail to solve Cahill, lose 4-1

The Oakland Athletics defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 4-1 on Saturday, June 25, 2011 at Citizens Bank Park. The A’s doubled their 2-1 lead in the top of the ninth inning to put the game out of reach.

Chase Utley, Shane Victorino, Carlos Ruiz and Ross Gload were the only Phillies to record hits against Oakland’s pitching staff. Trevor Cahill pitched seven and two-third innings to pick up the win for the A’s. He struck out six, walked three and allowed one run.

Andrew Bailey recorded the game’s final four outs to pick up his fifth save of the season.

Adam Rosales hit a solo homerun off of Phillies starter Cole Hamels in the third inning to tie the game 1-1. Hamels was charged with the loss after allowing two earned runs on eight hits in eight innings of work.

Ruiz drove in the Phillies’ only run of the game in the second inning with an RBI single.

Can the Phillies turn it around this afternoon when Roy Halladay faces Josh Outman?
