Angels pitcher Dan Haren may not be Justin Verlander or Cliff Lee, but he sure knows how to pitch like them. Over his last two starts, Haren has not allowed a run in 16 and one-third innings and has only allowed five baserunners in that span while racking up 15 strikeouts. In the photo above, Haren delivers a pitch against the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday, July 5, 2011 en route to his second complete game shutout of the season.
Coincidentally, Verlander was the opposing pitcher that night. Despite only allowing one run on seven hits, the Tigers’ ace took the hard-luck 1-0 loss against the Angels and was denied his 12th win of the 2011 campaign.
Haren is now 9-5 with a 2.65 ERA this season and his 107 strikeouts put him in ninth place in the American League. With Jered Weaver and Haren at the top of the rotation, the Angels have a strong chance to win the American League West division this year.
