In the photo above, Red Sox outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury (center) celebrates with teammates following Boston’s 4-3 win against the Cleveland Indians on Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2011 at Fenway Park. With two outs in the ninth inning, Ellsbury took Joe Smith’s 0-1 pitch over the center field wall for a walk-off homerun, his second walk-off hit in as many days. Ellsbury had an RBI single in the ninth inning against Cleveland the night before.
In just 24 hours, Ellsbury went from having zero walk-off hits in his MLB career to two, something that he and Boston fans should be cheering about. Alongside slugger Adrian Gonzalez, Ellsbury has been a catalyst for Boston’s offense this season. He has 18 homers, 65 RBI and 31 stolen bases in 2011 as of this morning.
