The Philadelphia Flyers kicked off the 2011-12 NHL season with a 2-1 victory over the Boston Bruins on Thursday, Oct. 7, at TD Garden in Boston.
Claude Giroux and Ilya Bryzgalov, both pictured above, led the way for the Flyers in the game. Giroux scored a late first period goal while Bryzgalov stopped 22 of the 23 shots he faced. Jakub Voracek scored the game-winning goal for the Flyers, who managed to fire 29 shots at Boston netminder Tim Thomas, last year’s Vezina Trophy winner.
Both teams will play their second game of the season on Saturday night. The Flyers will be in New Jersey while the Bruins will host Tampa Bay.
